Tejadillo
Tejadillo
Behind the royal court doors of the Hostal Del Tejadillo Hotel, you can find an authentic colonial boarding house.
The Hotel Tejadillo has an unusual design - The maze-like floor plan is due to the hotel being made up from three restored Havana mansions dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The location is perfect, round the corner from Cathedral Square, and the corner bar has tall windows facing onto San Ignacio and Tejadillo Streets.
There are two courtyards; one with tables for breakfast or drinks with a large mural of colonial architecture, the other full of bushy ferns and a Yagruma tree - whose vast leaves occasionally crash to the ground, startling unsuspecting bystanders.
The entrance hall has tall windows, traditional colonial window grilles and fanlights, high ceilings and positively chintzy armchairs and is decorated with paintings by local artists and also with bonsai trees, which hold an inexplicable fascination for Old Havana interior designers.
Standard Rooms
The 30 standard rooms at the Tejadillo tend to be generously sized and most of those which can be converted to triples are enormous and contain fully equipped kitchen units. They have well-made faux Colonial furniture mixed with modern wrought iron pieces. Large windows give excellent views of the street below. The bathrooms are small and tend to be a bit dimly lit, but are clean and functional. Half of the rooms have matrimonial beds and the other half are twin bedded.

There are only 2 Junior Suites at the hotel. Both are very spacious and have a magnificent view.

Past the eatery is a small, pub-like bar with tall, barred windows that look out onto the cobbled thoroughfares, where the Cathedral stands but a block away.
